Angela Lopez, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
We all have unique experiences that can make us feel isolated, misunderstood and alone. Searching for a therapist can make these feelings even louder, whether this is your first time in therapy, or you come with a long history of mental health struggles (including hospitalization or inpatient care). I am ready to hear your story, without judgement, and in support of your unique path.
My experience and passion is to work with people who have a history of mental health struggles or are newly diagnosed with mood or anxiety disorders, trauma and/or complex trauma, and burnout. As a registered art therapist, I am able to focus our work around traditional talk therapy and/or art therapy. Art therapy offers an alternative path to discovering new ways in which to understand, express, and process your emotions and experiences. No art skills are required! Art therapy can be helpful when words fail, activating a different part of the brain, which can lead to new insights and reflections. As my client, I will work to empower you and instill hope, while giving you skills to build resilience in pursuing what really matters to you.
I am a trauma-informed, feminist art therapist. I adapt my integrative approach based on client needs, often drawing on Adlerian principles, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Parts work. I focus on your strengths, and on empowering you to take action in your own life. I highly value cultural humility, and consider the sociocultural and economic structures that factor into your struggles.
Working with me can look different depending on what you need. Sometimes it's about finding your own agency, in moments when it feels like you have none. Sometimes it's simply feeling understood and met without judgment.
And sometimes it's more concrete — building real skills for assertiveness, distress tolerance, or self-insight, and getting clearer on the values that actually matter to you. I work with clients to understand what's important to them, and to find sustainable ways of nurturing those values in their lives. [Supervised by Daron Teske, LCPC]
