Sebastino Aviles (he/him)
MSW, MPH, LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker
In my practice, I aim to create a space where clients can better understand themselves and their evolving identities. I believe that therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I honor each client's unique journey and presence. Through a relationally oriented lens, I help clients examine their relationships with people, places, and challenges to gain clarity and insight into their lives. Together, we foster authenticity, self-reflection, and meaningful change. As a social worker, my approach to healing is holistic and nuanced, focusing on understanding each person within the context of their relationships, cultures, systems, and lived experiences. I emphasize the often unseen or unspoken aspects of life as crucial entry points for transformation and change.
My primary therapeutic approaches include Narrative, Relational, and Interpersonal Therapy, all of which I tailor to individual needs. I also integrate techniques from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Eclectic Therapy, always within a culturally sensitive and collaborative framework.
My areas of specialization include LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, trauma, anxiety and stress, depression and isolation, identity exploration, and relationship concerns. I also support clients navigating chronic medical conditions, body image and self-esteem issues, racial and cultural identity, and topics related to sexuality and sexual health.
I hold dual master’s degrees in social work (MSW) and public health (MPH) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and have been practicing since 2015. Additionally, I have a Certificate in Sex Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies, advanced training in Narrative Therapy from the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy, and I am EMDR trained through the EMDR International Association.
My sessions are typically conversational, built on curiosity, openness, and mutual engagement. I encourage clients to ask questions, share reflections, and explore possibilities, as I believe therapy is most effective when it is collaborative and liberating.
